The Lob Shot
Hi, Maria here, I’m going to show you how to hit the perfect lob shot.
As you can see I have hit my approach shot short and left and I have a big bunker to get over, with very little green to work with. It’s perfectly set up for a lob shot where I’m going to try to hit the ball nice and high and land it softly on the green, leaving myself with a makeable putt.
1) The approach is very similar to a long bunker shot. You just open the club face again, make sure it’s really open so that the ball flies up instead of forwards.
The ball should be in the middle of your stance, or if you want to hit the ball even higher you can move it a little bit more towards the left foot. A lot of players like to open up their stance with this shot but I prefer my feet to be parallel to the shot. If you prefer a really open stance that’s no problem.
2) The big thought to visualise here is that you feel like are taking the club back using your shoulders, not your hands.
3) Don’t bend your wrist too early, swing the club back with your shoulders and throw the club back down through ball.
You’ll see a really nice, high lob shot sailing through the air and landing softly on the green.
