WGC World Matchplay golf betting tips

The WGC World Match Play is one of my favourite events of the year. I love Match Play. The only problem is that there isn’t enough of it around on the Tour. This makes it difficult to place a bet.

An out of form player with a strong competitive nature can easily win this one. You are not playing the whole field...just the man in front of you. Whilst it would be easy to view the form book, you can pretty much throw that out of the window.

You can also be the best but struggle. Spieth, for example, did not get out of the group stage last year. So tips for this week are pretty much up in the air I’m afraid. Ever keen to place a golf bet, though, here is who I am going for this week.

Patrick Reed 40/1 (William Hill)

Loves this format as was proven at the Ryder Cup. Fist pumps galore. He is also playing well and goes in with form but more importantly...has the competitive personality to win this. The main competition in his group is Mickelson. Seeded first in his Group.

Branden Grace 50/1 (BetVictor)

Did you see him at the President's Cup...No? Well, he won all five of his points in Match Play format to be the top performing player in the tournament. These odds are certainly worth going for as the South African clearly likes this format. Seeded first in his Group.

Andy Sullivan 80/1 (Ladbrokes)

Playing with confidence and looking awesome. He also has a simple group compared to others as the top seed in the group is Oosthuizen. Can win this group and progress. Will see this as ideal preparation for the upcoming Ryder Cup. 

Kiradech Aphibarnrat 125/1 (Ladbrokes)

Comes into this fresh from a T-6 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Amazing final day performance and can take anyone on in this format. Makes my list as a proven Match Play winner. Won the Paul Lawrie Match Play last year on the European Tour. At these odds, form and format, he has to be worth a quid or two. Seeded third in his group but could surprise.
