There is some good news for those wishing to bet on the Sony Open in Hawaii. Mr Spieth ain’t playing and it’s the first full field tournament of the New Year. This means you can get really great players at some really great prices. So many in fact that narrowing it down is pretty tough given the value on offer.
Golf Spiv will happily admit that this is a tough one...but hey...you got to be in it to win it, right? For each way fans Sky Bet, Paddy Power and Stan James are paying six places whilst others are sticking to five. Here are the ones to watch at the best prices.
Jimmy Walker 16/1 (Stan James)
Can Walker continue his dominance of this event? Played well at the Tournament of Champions but was still a way off Spieth. But there is no Jordan this week. Has won this event twice in a row. Can he make a three-peat? Bookies think he can and placed him as favourite for this week. 16/1 is the best price available for him.
Kevin Kisner 22/1 (Skybet)
Has finally won a PGA event after showing so much promise and playing well. Came ninth last week and still leads the point standings in the Fed Ex. Will certainly look to continue this rich form going into the Sony. Spiv expects him to do just that. May not win but should be up there. Sky Bet paying up to six places and have him at best odds to.
Brandt Snedeker 28/1 (bet365)
T3rd at the Tournament of Champions and hitting the form we have missed from him. Looked great in Maui and beat Walker comfortably. Looking great with the putter and glad to have the old Sneds back. He is Golf Spiv’s favourite to win this one, however...he hasn’t played here for seven years and that is the only negative against him going into this event.
Marc Leishman 40/1 (Coral)
It was an emotional year for Marc last year after nearly losing his wife. Once she was on the mend however, bam! Play off at the Open in St Andrews (Spiv had him at 200/1 Each Way...get in!) and ended the year with a win at the Nedbank. Two top 10’s in this event will see him with a good outside chance and looks good for the Each Way. A solid player.
Ryan Palmer 55/1 (StanJames)
Palmer is a favourite of the Spiv. Sometimes brilliant, others woeful. His price reflects that. However, he is always a great little bet to place for the Each Way. Has won this event back in 2010 His last start at the Shriners saw him finish T16.
David Lingmerth 100/1 (BetVictor)
Lingmerth is a brilliant player to have at 100/1. An Each Way will see a payoff of 25/1 to get in top five. Must be worth a punt. When he is great he is great. Shot an amazing 66 in Maui on Saturday only to follow up with a 70. Needs to string four solid rounds together and he’ll have this one. Brace yourself for some frustration though if you do follow him. Jekyll and Hyde this one.
