Woman smashes up BMW with golf club
Then threatens to blow up his restaurant!
Words: Tim Southwell
What do you do when one of your mates is having a row with her boss? You pull out your 52 degree wedge, smash up his BMW and threaten to blow up his restaurant.
That's what Laura Norrey, 32, did anyway, when she saw Kaiser Ahmed having a spat with relatives of a woman he had fired from his Manchester steakhouse, amid claims he had been having an affair.
When Norrey got involved, a fight broke out and she dipped into his golf bag, pulled out a 52 degree Vokey wedge and went berserk, smashing the windows and body of his car and also taking a swing at Mr Ahmed for good measure.
The boss of Yaya's in Cheetham Hill (also known as 'the knock off capital of the UK', apparently) eventually overpowered Norrey, who works at rival takeaway Jungle Grill, and pinned her to the ground until the police arrived at the scene. Norrey broke free before officers arrived, but she was tracked down later.
The fight continued in her absence and two members of YaYa's staff were injured. CCTV footage of the incident was shown to the police, but was wiped before a copy could be given to them. Norrey caused £2,250 worth of damage to Mr Ahmed's car.
At Manchester Crown Court, she admitted affray, possessing an offensive weapon (a 52 degree wedge?! – Ed) and criminal damage.
Prosecuting Brian Berlyne explained how this sorry mess came about in the first place: 'A woman called Maria Ali had been employed as a waitress at YaYa's nearby but following a complaint about her standard of work Kaiser Ahmed ended her employment.
Norrey was given a 12 month community order, a rehabilitation order for 30 days and ordered to pay £125 in prosecution costs. She must also pay a victim surcharge but will not pay any compensation for the damage that she caused.
No details have yet emerged as to the damage, either physical or emotional, caused to the victim in all this – the Vokey wedge.
