Teenager crash lands plane on golf course
Unbelievable
Words: Tim Southwell
There's nothing more disconcerting than the words 'engine' and 'lost', especially when you put those words together and you take into account the fact that you're in an airplane. And you're flying it. And you're 17 years old.
Well, that's what happened to Sierra Lund of Peachtree, Georgia, who was in mid-flight piloting solo 'cross-countries' and shortly after take off realised all was not well.
Her mother, Steph Lund said Sierra was forced to make an emergency landing.
'So thankful for her amazing instructor who taught her how to pilot the airplane in a situation like this. As a parent of a student pilot you often wonder if your child will stay calm and recall what she has been trained to do.
'Happy to report Sierra did just that!' Steph Lund wrote on Facebook.
Sierra was able to safely land her plane on the Planterra Ridge Golf Course on Wednesday unharmed. Local police have praised her for staying calm and collected in a situation that could have shaken many seasoned pilots.
After the landing, Sierra wasted no time in getting her selfie in with the errant iron bird.
'Never underestimate this rising generation! So many of them are doing amazing things!' Steph Lund wrote.
Not sure who Steven Lund is but he's got a point. Not that we were underestimating the rising generation. By which we think he means young people who get up early. And by that we think he means mid-day-ish.
We're here all week...
Sierra you pretty cool. Plus you got a super cool Boston t-shirt on!! If you've never heard of Boston (the drug-addled melodic hippy band), check this out!
