Tiger debuts new Nike footwear
They are still 'together'...
Words: Tim Southwell Photography: Nike
Tiger's Nike love affair is not over yet. Yes, it's quite fractured. And no, it'll never be the quite same as it was in those heady days when anything seemed possible to a young man. They won't be having any more babies and they're probably going to live in separate houses. But, for the sake of the kids if nothing else, they are still 'together'.
And so, Tiger will reveal a prototype of the new Nike TW ’17 golf shoes, at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas this week. Tiger first wore the sneaker-style golf shoe back in 2011, mostly to support his knee and Achilles after surgery.
And this shoe emanates from the same post-op process.
"I wanted the shoe to reflect how my new swing shifted dominance from my left to my right,” says Tiger. “This shoe is an absolutely integral part of my return to the sport I love and have missed so much.”
Tiger has been in the shoe laboratory with Tobie Hatfield, Nike’s senior director of athlete innovation working on the new line of tootsie calmers.
The shoe Woods will wear this week is a prototype, and although no specific details were released, it appears to feature crossed bands that cover the laces.
According to a Nike’s press release, the thinking behind having crossed bands c overing the laces "is to address the need of keeping his feet more secure and locked down in his shoe.”
Tiger won all his last eight PGA Tour wins wearing this shoe so, if you want to win your next eight club championships, you know what to do. Get Tiger to play for you.
