Galvin Green shares in Europe's Ryder Cup Success

Galvin Green, Official Supplier of Weatherwear to the victorious European Team in Paris, enjoyed a record Ryder Cup of its own with sales of the exclusive Team and Trophy garments far exceeding the sales seen at Gleneagles four years ago.

And despite a lack of rain or gusting winds at Le Golf National during the three days of competition, sales of Galvin Green’s renowned waterproof jackets and trousers were extremely strong, as well as windproof jackets worn by several of Europe’s heroes over the pressurised final sessions.

Other clothing items from Galvin Green that proved popular with spectators at the giant merchandise facilities in France included Insula pullovers, Ventil8 shirts, caps and hats. A display of the Ryder Cup trophy drew crowds to the retail area where they could have their picture taken with the European Team wearing Galvin Green garments.

“Our positive retail experience at Gleneagles led us to become an Official Supplier to the European Ryder Cup Team and sales in Paris matched the performance of Europe’s winning team to exceed our expectations,” said Christian Nilsson, CEO of Galvin Green. “The Team wear proved extremely popular with thousands of European fans, while American supporters were drawn to the Trophy collection that can be worn at any Ryder Cup event as well as out on the golf course,” he added.

The most popular garments were the flagship ALBATROS waterproof GORE-TEX jacket with Super Stretch fabric and C-KNIT lining, plus the UP WIND INTERFACE-1™ Shell Layer Hybrid jacket, suitable for 95 out of 100 rounds played in standard conditions.

The leading high-performance clothing brand also achieved record social media ratings and levels of visitors to its website, stimulated by a daily ‘Billy’s Blog’ featuring veteran European Team caddie Billy Foster.

Ryder Cup gear still on sale

The revolutionary ALBATROS (named after the Le Golf National course) features a never-seen before Super Stretch fabric on the shoulders and elbows, that provides at least four times more stretch than previous versions. The extremely breathable full-zip jacket also features the smooth ‘slide & glide’ inner material of the exclusive C-KNIT® fabric.

A short-sleeved version, the FORWARD (1st hole) is also available, with both jackets incorporating two front pockets and adjustors on the chest and collar to help with the fit and keep out the rain.

In the case of the ALBATROS, the sleeves are shaped for easy movement in the swing and the sleeve ends are smooth and soft, while the hem is laminated for a cleaner look. A touch & close fastener ensures rain doesn’t intrude, along with a water-repellent zipper.

The matching pair of waterproof trousers the JUDGES (15th) also come in GORE-TEX® fabric with the C-KNIT® backer for a smooth ‘slide & glide’ experience when worn over other trousers. A GORE-TEX® Super Stretch panel is located at the top of the back to assist when bending over putts. An elasticated waist and drawstring provides the perfect fit, while the leg width can also be adjusted.

There is a zipper fly opening and water-repellent zippers, plus two back pockets and front pockets with fleece lining. A split inseam is added for abrasion resistance and a spring-loaded zipper puller features on the side of both long leg openings for ease of access. A symbol of the Ryder Cup trophy features on the left knee.

The ground-breaking INTERFACE-1™ Shell Layer Hybrid jacket UP WIND (9th) made its first appearance in Ryder Cup matches. The lightweight – a super soft, quiet garment is totally windproof and highly breathable. The jacket is made from 100% polyester stretch fabric with a PU breathable membrane and water-repellent finish. The full-zip jacket features two hidden front pockets an elastic drawstring at the hem and a repositioned side seam for optimum comfort.
