FootJoy's Bold New Direction
FootJoy Apparel has evolved
Words: Daniel Owen
2016 is the year FootJoy step up their apparel collection. Quietly in the background they’ve become one of the biggest apparel brands in golf. In on-course shirt sales they are now the number one brand in the UK. But up to this point, if we’re being honest, it’s been a bit dull. Stripes, plain polos, fabrics. Everything has been perfectly serviceable and really well made but just a tad generic.
This year it’s anything but. We’re not suggesting FootJoy are trying to go for the J.Lindeberg market, or steal sales from Boss, but this year's collection is fashion forward unlike anything they’ve done before. Logos are less prominent, cuts have got slimmer in some product, and we love the attention to detail on some of the shirts. Striped collar yokes, button down collars, sharp pockets.
There are four key colour stories in this season's range:
Evoke
Vista
Maui
Aster
Our favourite piece is this white and aqua Pique Pin Dot Print polo shirt from the Maui collection. With it’s striped yoke and pin dot design this shirt is very modish and about as far removed as possible from any of FJ’s previous work.
FootJoy use great materials in their shirts, and one of the key new materials is QuikDry. The material makes use of a capillary action to defy gravity (something first discovered by Leonardo Da Vinci for you science bods out there) and remove moisture wicked from the skin to the outside of the garment noticeably quicker and more effectively than ever before, leaving the wearer comfortable and dry even in the most humid conditions.
The beauty of this range is that if you prefer plain colours and unobtrusive clothing then FootJoy are still offering that, however if you want to stand out a little on the course FJ have now got that in their locker as well.
The 2016 Spring/Summer Performance Apparel Collection from FootJoy will be available from 1st March.
