Scottish Open 24: First Look as Rory returns to the Renaissance Club
Here is everything you need to know for the Genesis Scottish Open
Day one of the Scottish Genesis Open tees off today as we look ahead to 4 days of thrilling links golf through till Sunday. Today sees Rory McIlroy returning to defend his title from last years classy win, making his first tournament appearance since the painful defeat at the US Open just 4 weeks ago.
Day 4 at Pinehurst No 2, McIlroy looked to have his 5th major title in the bag before bogeying three of the last four, missing two relatively short putts letting Bryson DeChambeau sneak ahead to a 1 shot victory.
Speaking in his press conference prior to the Genesis Scottish Open Rory said "I look back on that day, just like I look back on some of my toughest moments in my career," "I'll learn a lot from it and I'll hopefully put that to good use." "It's something that's been a bit of a theme throughout my career. I've been able to take those tough moments and turn them into great things not very long after that."
12 months ago we saw him and Bob Macintyre fight it out for the Scottish Open title in a thriller of a finish, when Rory hit THAT 2 iron within 10 feet of the pin up the last and holed this title winning putt.
A top tier list of the best players in the world feature at the North Berwick Renaissance Club for the co-sanctioned PGA Tour and DP World Tour event, almost serving as a undulating and intricate links golf warm-up for the ever looming Open Championship at Royal Troon the following week.
McIlroy is joined by MacIntyre and Norwegian star, Viktor Hovland, in an awesome featured group for Thursday and Friday, with Xander Schauffele and Wyndham Clark accompanying Tommy Fleetwood in another. Not to forget the star studded group of Ludvig Aberg, Hideki Matsuyama and former Open champ Collin Morikawa.
A full list of tee times and groups can be found HERE.
Whatever the result, we can't wait for a awesome weekend of golf with LIV Golf Andalucía also teeing off tomorrow and plenty of other sport to keep us hooked to the TV.
