Jimmy Walker's PGA Championship What's In The Bag
First Major Win For Titleist 917
Words: Daniel Owen
Jimmy Walker won the PGA Championship last night for his first major victory, holding off Jason Day at Baltusrol. And he did it with nearly a full complement of Titleist equipment.
It was the first major victory for the Titleist 917 driver. This prototype model has been getting a lot of play on tour, but it's massive to get a win like this before the driver has even been released. Find out all we know about the Titleist 917 here.
His UST Mamiya Elements Platinum shaft he was using in his driver is a prototype super low spin model. They are available in small quantities but will set you back $500. Blimey.
The lone non Titlesit club in the bag was the TaylorMade M1 3 wood. This was our fairway wood of the year last year, it's easy to use, but has a compact head. It also goes like a rocket. With the success of the M2, its easy to forget just how good the M1 is. It's also unusual to see a high profile player like Walker using a non Titleist three wood.
Walker's Putter is twelve year old model Scotty Cameron he'd had loads of success with earlier in his career, winning the 2004 Nationwide Tour Money List. About a year ago he had it sent back to the Scotty Cameron Custom Shop. They added tungsten weights to make it heavier, and he had the head refinished back to new. Note to self, never get rid of old putters.
