Billy Horschel beats Jason Day in play off

Dramatic end to Byron Nelson Classic

Billy Horschel bagged  a massive win for himself and club manufacturers PXG when he beat Jason Day in a play–off at the Byron Nelson event in Texas.

Horschel, 30, won his fourth PGA Tour event after a one–under 69 got him to –12 and a play off with Jason Day.

Both players left birdie chances short on the 72nd hole to set up the play–off. Horschel then won his first tournament since 2014 after world number three Day, 29, missed a four–foot putt for par on the 18th.

It was quite the comeback for Horschel who had missed his previous four consecutive cuts. Horschel started the day a shot behind overnight leader John Hahn, but Hahn slipped back after three consecutive bogeys on the back nine and eventually had to settle for third place on –11.

Horschel's big moment came with a birdie on 16 which put him level with Day. The pair then parred the final two holes, setting up the play off and Horschel's big big moment.

Defending champion Sergio Garcia, carded a final–round 74 to fade from contention.

Ian Poulter, who finished second at The Players Championship, carded 69 to finish tied 35th at –2.
