Wes Bryan wins first PGA Tour event at Hilton Head

Perhaps the trick-shot career is over?

Wesley Bryan claimed his first career PGA Tour title as he shot a final round 67 to win the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links.

On a day where seemingly no one wanted to win, it was the former YouTube sensation Bryan who charged his way through the field to beat Luke Donald by one stroke.

Four birdies in a row on the front nine along with two birdies on the final nine was enough to get it done for Bryan, who has bounced onto the scene after his three Web.com tour victories last season.

“Honestly, I wasn’t nervous at all, all day. And then on 17, I got up and just threw up a little in my mouth and I was like shoot, I guess this is what nervous feels like!” Bryan said.

“It’s not even real yet. Maybe I’ll wake up tomorrow and snap in reality, but I stayed composed. Luckily, I managed to get it done.”

“To get it done in South Carolina [in front of home fans] was really special.”

But for Luke Donald, it was a case of too little too late as he posted a round of 68 to ultimately come up one shot short. Incredibly, this is Donald’s fifth 2nd place finish at Harbour Town – perhaps it just isn’t meant to be for the former world number one.

But for those of you that followed our advice, you can go and collect each–way winnings on the Englishman after we tipped him in our preview. Patrick Cantlay, Ollie Schniederjans and William McGirt rounded off the top five.

Ian Poulter also endured a frustrating round on the links. Poults needed a solo 12th place finish to secure his PGA Tour card after taking a medical leave last year. A final round of 73 (+2) wasn’t enough, leaving him tied alongside 11 other players for 11th place. Poulter will have a final chance of securing his card next week at the Valero Texas Open.

Elsewhere, it was a nervy day for many other players that were in contention going into the final round. Jason Dufner, leader after 54 holes, carded a 76 (+5) to end up T11th, while Canadian Graham DeLaet is still in search of his first PGA Tour title after hitting a 73 (+2) to tie for 6th after having a nightmare day on the greens.

For GolfPunk readers, it was a poor day for one of our tips Kevin Kisner who tied for 11th after shooting a three–over–par 74. On a tricky day for scoring, Tyrrell Hatton and Graeme McDowell finished T29th, Shane Lowry at T44th and Andrew ‘BEEF’ Johnston finished up T64th.
