The Worst 61 Of All Time
Tim Hart triple bogeys the last
Words: Daniel Owen
All you need is a par for a 58. You can afford a bogey for a 59. A double bogey still wins you the tournament. Tim Hart made a triple bogey to drop into a playoff, and eventually come second. Ouch.
Hart was 12 under standing on the 18th tee of the Queensland PGA Championship. He didn’t realise he was in the lead, and felt like he had to keep pushing. So he did what he had been doing all day, and played aggressively, hitting driver off the tee. Except unlike the rest of the day, he hit that drive left and out of bounds. When he reloaded again he hit it right, behind a tree. Chopping his way down the rest of the hole, Hunt signed for a triple bogey 7, and a 61.
"I'm a bit disappointed after the last hole, I really played well all day to get myself in that position. I didn't know the standings on the leader board which probably helped, but that's no excuse.
"If I'd known I was 3 or 4 shots in front, maybe the 2-iron comes out.”
Hart made the playoff still, but was beaten by David Klein who birdied the 18th after Hart hit it into the trees again on the 18th tee.
To cheer you up after reading about this depressing tale of golf woe, here’s a video of one of our favourite rounds of golf we have ever witnessed, David Duval shooting 59, making an eagle on the last to get the job done and win the Bob Hope Classic.
