Solheim dreams on the line at the Ricoh Women's British Open. Who will make the final team?
There is something extra to play for this week at the Ricoh Women’s British Open, as the final Solheim Cup places will be filled upon the tournament’s conclusion. For American and European players this is the final chance to impress the captains as they reveal their picks on Sunday.
With the teams largely complete, there will be many top names aiming to impress both Annika Sorenstam (Europe) and Juli Inkster (USA) in order to become a captain’s pick. Sorenstam will have four picks for Team Europe whilst Inkster will have Two for the USA.
Whilst the final team standing are not complete, there is also an opportunity for some to cement their qualification for the biannual showcase that will take place in Des Moines, Iowa on the 18th–20th August.
At the 2015 Solheim Cup, The USA overcame a massive points deficit on the final day securing the Cup by one point after demolishing the Europeans in the singles. This time around they will have home advantage. Currently, the standings are:
TEAM EUROPE |
TEAM USA |
Georgia Hall |
Lexi Thompson |
Florentyna Parker |
Stacy Lewis |
Mel Reid |
Gerina Piller |
Carlota Ciganda |
Cristie Kerr |
Suzann Pettersen - WR |
Jessica Korda |
Charley Hull - WR |
Danielle Kang |
Karine Icher - WR |
Michelle Wie |
Jodi Ewart Shadoff – WR |
Brittany Lang |
Brittany Lincicome - WR |

Georgia Hall and Florentyna Parker will make their debuts for the European Team. Sorenstam will almost certainly try to bolster the team with more experience. For Inkster, she has a gulf of choices at her disposal.
