Victorious Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III was brought crashing down to earth, literally, when he suffered broken bones in a snowboard accident, with his collarbone getting the worst of it.
It seems Love III got a bit over excited while snowboarding with his son Dru at Sun Valley, Idaho. When Dru took off down the mountain like Franz Klammer on speed, 'pops' decided the young scamp would have to learn the hard way that experience always wins over youthful athleticism and fearlessness.
Except that youthful athleticism and fearlessness is probably quite a good thing compared to (Where the hell is this going?? – Ed) ... Anyway, this is what Davis said in his 'defence'.
"I committed the cardinal sin of following Dru down the mountain,'" Love said (via his manager to the Golf Channel).
Love underwent surgery on Thursday night, with a metal plate and eight screws used to help repair his collarbone.
Love, 52, who has won 21 PGA Tour events, including one major – the 1997 PGA Championship – has now undergone three major operations in the last four years. In 2013 he had surgery to remove bone spurs and had a spinal-fusion procedure, while last July he went under the knife to fix a torn hip labrum.
Love was due to play in next week's Sony Open but he will now instead be sidelined for around 12 weeks.
Reports suggest that Dru Love (The first) is still at large and should be approached with caution if you happen see him at a ski resort...
