Play a Seve course in Tenerife
Which will knock your lights out
Words: John Dean
If you want to follow in the footsteps of a true golf legend, the get your sticks out and head on down to Buenavista Golf in sunny Tenerife.
Buenavista Golf is a spectacular Seve Ballesteros–designed course in the north–west of Tenerife, offering a great golf experience at a stunning and unique coastal location.
With the cliffs of Teno acting as the backdrop, this is a course cunningly designed both for the hacker and the quality player. I still belong in the hacker category, so my small victory was to come off the course with one more ball than I started with, courtesy of a ball–finding fest in the water at the eighteenth. Small victories I know, but it really is a gorgeous course for players of any standard, which is a real testimony to Seve’s design skills.
Opened in 2003, the par–72 course features a host of enticing elevated tee shots to wide fairways and true greens with clever undulations and hazard placement. There’s never a straightforward putt, so make sure your flat stick game is in shape if you want to score low here.
With several greens situated just a few metres away from the Atlantic Ocean crashing against the shoreline, it all adds up to a memorable round. There really is a touch of the Pebble Beaches here, and sometimes your concentration will wander with the sheer beauty that you are faced with.
A recent programme to improve the fairways and landscaping has been undertaken; 12 bunkers have been upgraded and the driving range and practice facilities have also been revamped.
With a brand new fleet of buggies and new TaylorMade rental clubs now available, Buenavista Golf is properly geared up for visiting golfers.
And when your round is done, you can retire to a beautifully designed clubhouse, with a lovely sundeck offering magnificent views over the Atlantic Ocean.
