Lucas Bjerregaard secures maiden European Tour win

At the Portugal Masters

Lucas Bjerregaard secured his maiden European Tour win at the Portugal Masters with a six-under-par 65.

Bjerregaard opened with a birdie on the first, and was to add three more on the 4th, 5th and 8th to make the turn in an impressive 32.

He then added birdies at the 10th and 11th to further strengthen his lead over the chasing pack, which included Scotland’s Mark Warren and England’s Graeme Storm.

He dropped his only shot of the day at the 14th, but immediately fought back with a birdie at the 15th. A final birdie on the par 5 17th, followed by a par on the 18th, saw him card a back nine 33, and with that an ultimately comfortable four shot victory over Warren.

In third place, and a further shot back, were England’s Graeme Storm and Eddie Pepperell. Portuguese pair Jose-Filipe Lima and Ricardo Gouveia tied for fifth a stroke behind.

But it was the 26-year-old Dane’s day, and no one could really exert any sustained pressure on him.
