Florida man gets jail for DUI on golf cart
Fifth DUI and second in a golf cart
Words: James Greenwood
A Florida man has been sentenced to seven months in jail for his fifth drunken driving offense, and the second aboard a golf cart in his parents' retirement community.
Chad Basford, 38, was found passed out in a golf cart at the corner of El Camino Real and Enrique Drive, the vehicle's headlights and taillights still on, Villages-News.com reported.
He told the police that he had six Yuenglings and a shot of whiskey at a sports bar.
Basford failed a series of sobriety tests and refused to provide a breath sample, police said.
He pleaded no contest to a charge of DUI and is serving a 210-day sentence at Sumter County Detention Center. And he won’t be driving again in a car or a golf cart for at least ten years.
This was Basford's fifth drunken driving offense, having been charged previously in 1995, 2010, 2013 and 2014, Villages-News.com reported.
Basford, 38, was found passed out in a golf cart with the vehicle's headlights and taillights still on.
In 2014, he was arrested after running a red light on a golf cart.
