President Trump's Secretary of Health and Human Services, Tom Price resigned on Friday after an investigation by Politico revealed that he had spent more than $1 million for travel expenses since May. But what about Trump’s own golf expenses?
"I will tell you personally, I'm not happy about it. I am not happy about it. I'm going to look at it. I let him know it," Trump commented about Price's expenses.
And whilst Trump may be upset about Price’s lavish travel spending, he does not seem to be the least bit concerned about just how much his own golf habit is costing US tax payers.
Whilst there is no official information released about Presidential travel, a report about a 2013 golf trip by then President Obama, revealed that it cost over $3.6 million.
According to Trump Golf Count, a website which keeps a watchful eye over Trump’s golf tally, Trump has visited his courses at least 60 times since taking office.
If we assume that each trip costs at least $3 million, then the bill comes to a staggering $180 million, which makes Tom Price’s $1 million look a bit paltry to say the very least.
Trump repeatedly attacked President Obama for playing golf:
But in true Trump style, he cannot see the total hypocrisy of his own actions.
The cost of providing security for the POTUS is also putting great strain on the Secret Service, not least because of the huge amount of overtime required. But this does not see to phase Trump in the least.
When the full scale of his golfing extravagance becomes more widely known, his love of the great game may yet become his Achilles Heel.
