Former Tennis Star Paradorn Srichaphan at Asian Q-School

Another misguided attempt to make it on tour?

Yesterday we brought you news that scratch golfer (and occasional Real Madrid legend) Gareth Bale had reecived a cheeky offer from the European Tour to sign up for Q-School. That led to us digging out stories of all the other football players who've tried to make it in golf. Now, former World Number 3 tennis star Paradorn Srichaphan is having a go in Asia. Will they never learn?...

Paradorn, 36, who also tried his luck as a Buddhist monk (Got thrown out for contiunually losing his temper, did he? He'll last five minutes on tour - Ed), is playing Q-School for the first time after earlier bids to launch his golf career stalled.

"Golf? Can't be that much different to a finely crafted backhand, plus there's no one to tell me off for losing my temper..."

Other tennis players who thought they'd make it as a golfer include Ivan Lendl who has competed badly in a handful of professional events and Yevgeny Kafelnikov who established himself as Russia's best player in 2014 but missed the cut in all 19 events (a mix of European Tour and Challenge Tour events) he played in.

Here he is below, tail between his legs trying to justify wasting everyone's time...

"I love sports and I want to prolong my sporting career," says Srichaphan. "That was why I decided to switch to golf. Everybody who plays golf falls in love with the game. It's the same case for me. I have been putting in a lot of time and effort into my golf game for the past four to five years."

Paradorn was forced to retire from tennis in 2010 after injuring his wrist while trying his luck racing motorbikes. That didn't end well either.

He also tried to make the cut as a golfer in 2013, but flopped after being handed invitational appearances on Southeast Asia's ASEAN PGA Tour.

Paradorn needs to finish in the top 40 this week in Hua Hin to gain his Asian Tour card, which would give him access to the region's biggest professional golf circuit.

"I am very excited and I am looking forward to the week. I will just keep to my own routine. I have been playing on the local tour before coming here," Paradorn said.

Here's another video of an ex-tennis player going through the first five holes of a legitmate golf tournament nine over par...

"I think golf is a game that you can really play for a long time," sais . It's very challenging. You can still win even when you're over 40 years old," added Srichaphan. "It's really competitive out here but it helps to keep you going as you try to improve. There are a lot of good players in Thailand."

And that. as they say, is probably that...
