Crazy Golf Gets Serious
Did we say Serious? We meant Boozy
Words: Daniel Owen
“I think its safe to say crazy golf just got a bit weird and boozy.” If that’s not the best quote you read today then we want to know what is. Crazy Golf is hitting the big time, with two adults only indoor courses opening up soon. In Manchester a pop up Junkyard Golf Club is set to open, while early next year in London a permanent location will open to home Swingers.
The Junkyard Golf Club opens for business from the 24th November to the 6th December. Dreamt up by Bart Murphy, the founder of B.Eat Street a popular street dining space, the course will fill a large venue in Great Northern.
“I have been accumulating junk in my garage for a few months and now I am building a crazy junkyard golf course with it. I think it’s safe to say crazy golf just got a bit weird and boozy.”
Three holes are already built, made from a collection of teapots, treadmills, weights and inflatable toys.
Tickets go on sale November 4 at 6pm, priced at £6 per person. The course can be played in pairs or groups of four, six and eight.
Last year in London, Swingers launched their massively successful pop up indoor adult crazy golf course. With fun courses, a well stocked bar and some of the finest food pop up in London, the venue was a resounding success. So much so they’ve found themselves a permanent home.
Opening next April, there will be two 9 hole courses, three amazing food vendors including Patty and Bun arguably the best burgers in the land, and Pizza Pilgrims, and most importantly 4 separate bars including a gin terrace. There will be be no scorecards, just a scoring app, which you’ll also be able to order food on while out on the course. It’s safe to say this isn’t crazy golf as you know it.
The venue is in an incredible World War 2 bunker, under the city, and is going to be at the Brown’s Building's, between St Mary Axe and Bury Street, EC3A 4AF.
Credit where it’s due, everyone can have fun playing crazy golf. These aren't seaside putt putts of your child hood. With the resurgence of the child friendly adventure golf courses as well, we hope that some of these players will use it as a stepping stone to giving the real thing a go.
