R&A announce venue for 152nd Open

Royal Troon first hosted The Open in 1923, and the great event will return to the famed links course in South Ayrshire a century on from that first staging. In 2023, Royal Troon will be staging the event for the tenth time, the last time being 2016 when Henrik Stenson prevailed in a mighty battle with Phil Mickelson.

In the first Open at Royal Troon, Arthur Havers defeated the legend Walter Hagen by a single stroke. 

"We are very much looking forward to celebrating another milestone in the cherished history of The Open when we mark the 100th anniversary of the Championship first being played at Royal Troon." said Martin Slumbers, Chief Executive of The R&A.

Stenson joined Arthur Havers, Bobby Locke, Arnold Palmer, Tom Weiskopf, Tom Watson, Mark Calcavecchia, Justin Leonard and Todd Hamilton as Open champions on the classic course.

The worlds best will be battling for the Claret Jug and the title Champion Golfer of the Year.

The Open is an important event bringing economic benefits to both the game of golf worldwide as well as the local community. The last Open at Royal Troon was worth an estimated £110 million to the Scottish economy.
