There was lots of concern that the new format of the Tour Championship was going to result in the FedEx Cup leader running away with things and there being a lack of drama at East Lake Golf Club over the last big weekend for the PGA Tour. Well things didn’t really work out like that as Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele and Brooks Koepka all start day two tied on 10 under with Rory just one behind.
Tiger Woods made an eagle putt from over 27 feet on the par-5 18th hole for a 5-under 65 and a share of the lead with Rickie Fowler in the Tour Championship. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
After day one at the CME Group Tour Championship, Lexi Thompson made a statement early in her home state, shooting a 65 which included eight birdies to lead the 72-player field on seven-under at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida.
It didn’t rain (that much) today, and the crowds came out in their droves. Who says the young guns aren’t already making a difference? They came to see Jordan, and he did not disappoint. In the end he won comfortably with a two under 69 to beat Henrik Stenson by four shots.
No one has been going really low today. The rain has made the rough that much more penal, and focused everyone’s attention on hitting fairways. There’s zero reward in being off-line, and that’s kept it conservative out there today. It’s frankly been a very quiet day indeed. Zzzzzzz.
