South Africa's Thriston Lawrence became the first winner of the DP World Tour era after the Joburg Open was reduced to a 36-hole event. The home favourite had matched his lowest DP World Tour round on days one and two, with a pair of 65s sending him into the weekend at Randpark Golf Club at 12 under and with a four-shot lead.
Thriston Lawrence opened up a commanding four shot lead after matching the lowest round of his DP World Tour career twice at the weather-delayed Joburg Open. The South African managed to avoid the storms around Randpark Golf Club on Friday to record a second consecutive round of 65 and get to 12 under par, four clear of countryman Zander Lombard, who carded a 67.
he European Tour will return to South Africa next month when the Joburg Open is contested from November 19-22. The Joburg Open was first contested in 2007 and boasts an impressive array of past winners such as Major champion Charl Schwartzel and multiple European Tour champions including George Coetzee, Darren Fichardt, Branden Grace, Haydn Porteous, Richard Sterne and Andy Sullivan.
