Carlos Ortiz held off Dustin Johnson and a charging Hideki Matsuyama to win the Vivint Houston Open and become the first Mexican to win on the PGA Tour since Victor Regalado in 1978 at the Quad Cities Open. Robert MacIntyre claimed an emotional maiden European Tour title at the Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Showdown, where a seven under final round 64 earned the Scot a one-stroke victory in a thrilling shoot-out finale. "When the rain delay came in there, I said to my caddie Mike, it’s time to show up. I hit a great iron shot into 15 and there it was. It turned up right at the right time."

Another day of high drama at the Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Showdown ended with 19 players progressing to the final-day shoot-out in Cyprus, where Johannes Veerman and Matthew Jordan signed for the lowest rounds of the day while Gavin Green was among those players to produce an eleventh-hour salvo to make it through to Sunday.

Sweden’s Caroline Hedwall added a two-under-par bogey-free round of 70 to yesterday’s effort of 65 to maintain a narrow one-shot lead at nine-under-par from England’s Meghan MacLaren heading into the final round at the OMEGA Dubai Moonlight Classic. Luckily tomorrow’s final round doesn’t begin until 5 pm (local time), giving her adequate time to turn in her papers before the deadline.

In unprecedented times, we have one more men’s golf major to look forward to this year. The Masters at Augusta is scheduled in November for the first time, after the cancellation earlier in the year. It has thrown the plans of golfers into the air, but we have seen events running every week for some time now, so there can be no claims of rustiness or a lack of practice.

England Golf CEO Jeremy Tomlinson is among a group of signatories on a letter to the Prime Minister which makes a compelling case for golf courses to be allowed to stay open during the second national lockdown.
