Poults rips into Zinger
As commentator belittles the European Tour
Words: GolfPunk
GolfPunk favourite Ian Poulter saw red following comments by Paul Azinger at the weekend suggesting the European Tour was a lot easier than the PGA Tour. Poulter took to Twitter and did not hold back on what he thought about what was said by the ex-Ryder Cup captain.
After Tommy Fleetwood had come up short at the Honda Classic at the weekend hitting is his second shot into the water at the 18th Azinger claimed winning tournaments on the PGA Tour was a far bigger achievement than winning on the European Tour or internationally.
“A lot of pressure here, you’re trying to prove to everybody that you’ve got what it takes,” Azinger said. “These guys know, you can win all you want on that European Tour or in the international game and all that but you have to win on the PGA Tour.”
Poults was having none of that and immediately took to Twitter to berate Azinger.
"I like Paul Azinger a lot and get on with him great, but Paul please do not condescend or disrespect the European Tour and our players like that," tweeted Poulter.
"We have slapped your a*** in the Ryder Cup for so long. I know you captained a win but seriously that was embarrassing today."
Sungjae Im won the Honda Classic by one stroke over Mackenzie Hughes with Fleetwood eventually finishing third after his visit to the water at the last. The Englishman had needed a birdie to force a playoff.
