The Greatest Shot Ever Played?
But have you ever seen it from this angle?
Words: Daniel Owen
You know the shot I'm talking about, Tiger Woods. 2005. The Masters. He's at the back of the green on 16. A downhill, side hill chip. He aims way left, pops the ball up, before watching it slowly trundle towards the hole. It teeters on the edge of the cup before the Nike swoosh slowly drops in.
If you can't remember the shot, you'll remember the commentary, ingrained into your memory like your two times table should be. "Oh My Goodness. Oh, wow! In your life have you seen anything like that?”
Of course you know the shot. It might be the greatest shot of all time. Certainly one of the loudest as the place erupts as the ball finally drops. Tiger goes mental like a WWE wrestler about to drop his finishing move, except Tiger has already delivered the knockout blow.
But we doubt you've ever seen it from this angle. It took 10 years for this footage to appear, and until this morning you can count us amongst those who have never seen it before. It's mental how far left Tiger has to aim the chip, and you can tell he thought the ball wasn't going to drop. If you thought the shot was good before, we think this footage makes it look even tougher, definitely cementing it as the best shot we've ever witnessed.
